About the Author

Yema Chaemie is a writer, dreamer, and self-proclaimed dragon who has been spinning stories since she could talk. Born with a book in one hand and a love of palm oil (pamai) in the other, she grew up surrounded by the magic of her mother’s library and the hum of mechanical dragons in her father’s engineering lab. Her writing explores the intersection of heartbreak, resilience, and the extraordinary, blending everyday horrors with fantasy, science fiction, and a comedic twist. She has a deep love for performing her work, bringing her stories and poems to life with electric energy and a captivating presence.

A lifelong lover of words, Yema writes for brokenhearted women everywhere, inviting them to imagine a world where they are powerful enough to command the sky. Soul Food for the Brokenhearted is her first published collection, a decade-long labor of love and a testament to the healing power of storytelling. Her debut novel, Sol Invictus, is set in an alternate universe where magic is abundant and people can turn into dragons. (Yes, it’s as cool as it sounds.)

When she’s not writing, Yema can be found performing her work, belting out karaoke tunes, or hanging out with her mini panther, Baghera, in their concrete jungle of Toronto.
